BURJ AL ARAB HOTEL

The Burj Al Arab is the world’s only 7 star luxury hotel located in Dubai. Burj Al arab is an arabic term that means "Tower of the Arabs." It was designed by Architect Tom Wright. The shape of the hotel symbolizes the sail of a ship. It is located on an artificial island in the Persian Gulf. It stands 1053 feet thus making it the fourth tallest hotel in the world. It has 202 rooms, 60 floors and 18 elevators. The construction for this hotel started on 1994 and got completed on 1999. The rates of the Burj Al Arab accommodation can range between $1,000 and $15,000.

The Burj Al Arab has the tallest atrium lobby in the world at 180 meters. The atrium dominates the interior of the hotel and takes up over one-third of interior space. The atrium is formed between the building's V-shaped span

It has a restaurant called Al Muntaha that is situated 200 meters above the Persian Gulf and shows a splendid view of the entire Dubai. The ambience here is really great and soothing.

Also, it has another restaurant called Al Mahara which features a sea water aquarium. It can be reached by taking a submarine ride. This restaurant is included on the list of the top 10 restaurants in the world.

As an architect, Tom Wright created an iconic structure for Dubai. I chose this structure because it is very much known for its unique architecture. The challenge for us, Filipino architecture students, is to create a structure that would become a symbolic statement for the Philippines as Sydney has its opera house, Paris its Eiffel Tower and Dubai its Burj Al Arab Hotel.
